SUMOT is officially founded: a new milestone in reinventing electric powertrain systems

We are pleased to announce the official foundation of SUMOT, a startup born within G2Elab in Grenoble, following more than ten years of research and a structured maturation process conducted with SATT Linksium.

SUMOT brings to market a breakthrough « boosting » technology for electric motors that opens new horizons for electric mobility: the overfluxing inverter, a patented power electronics innovation comparable to a “turbocharger” for electric motors. It enables temporary over-boosting when needed to significantly enhance performance (up to +100% peak power), or reducing motor size while maintaining the same performance (downsizing up to –40%). This approach introduces a true additional degree of freedom in powertrain design, demonstrating that sizing compromises previously deemed unreachable can now be achieved.

Our vision is guided by a strong conviction: the performance of a system does not depend solely on its individual components, but on how they interact. By adopting a resolutely system-level approach, we aim to optimize the whole rather than pushing each element to its limit. This enables us to deliver solutions that are more relevant, more resource-efficient, and better aligned with the real-world needs of our industrial partners.

With SUMOT, we support stakeholders across light electric mobility, automotive applications, and industrial systems, helping them move toward powertrains that are more performant, more compact, and more resource-efficient—addressing today’s technical, economic, and environmental challenges.

The journey is just beginning, and our ambition is clear: to make this technology a new standard in the automotive industry. By transforming the way electric powertrains are conceived—combining performance with frugality—we aim to foster more sustainable and accessible mobility, and contribute to a more resilient and sovereign European industry, by doing better with less.

Together, let’s think bold and build light!
